The Registered Dietitian works in collaboration with healthcare teams to foster patient wellness and recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Nutritional Evaluation:
Conduct thorough nutritional evaluations for patients, taking into account their medical history, laboratory results, and dietary habits. Identify individual nutritional requirements and potential dietary limitations. - Care Strategy Development:
Create and implement customized nutrition care strategies to meet specific health needs and nutritional objectives. Assess and monitor the success of nutrition interventions, making necessary adjustments. - Patient Education and Support:
Provide education to patients and their families on nutritional principles, healthy eating practices, and dietary adjustments for managing health conditions. Offer practical guidance and strategies for healthier food selections. Facilitate group education sessions and workshops on nutrition-related subjects. - Collaboration and Coordination:
Work alongside physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to incorporate nutritional care into comprehensive patient treatment plans. Engage in multidisciplinary team discussions to review patient progress and modify care strategies as needed. - Documentation and Compliance:
Maintain precise and comprehensive patient records, including evaluations, care strategies, and progress documentation. Ensure that all records comply with regulatory and institutional standards. - Quality Improvement and Research:
Participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality and effectiveness of nutritional care services. Stay informed about the latest research and advancements in nutrition and dietetics. Contribute to the formulation of nutrition-related policies, procedures, and educational resources.
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field from an accredited institution. Completion of a supervised dietetic internship program. A Master's degree in Nutrition or a related field is preferred. - Licensure/Certification:
Current Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). State licensure or certification as required. - Experience:
A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in clinical nutrition or a healthcare environment is preferred. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
