Job Description

Role Summary:

The Field Engineer/Welding Inspector will be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of construction activities on a large-scale nuclear project. This will involve performing surveillance and inspections to verify that works are carried out in accordance with the contract and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular surveillance and inspections to ensure compliance with contract requirements and company policies.
  • Identify and report any non-conformities or quality issues to the Construction Superintendent.
  • Collaborate with other site teams to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of quality control plans and procedures.
  • Monitor and report on contractor performance and quality control records.
  • Ensure that all works are carried out in accordance with relevant British and European standards, construction and design codes, and guidelines.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Welding Inspector qualification (e.g. CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent) and basic appreciation of NDT qualification.
  • Higher level qualifications in welding and NDT desirable.
  • Experience in large power plant design, manufacture, and construction.
  • Good working knowledge of Quality Management practices, methods, and processes.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and installation of pressure systems.
  • Experience in structural steel, welded pre-fabrication of reinforcement cages, and civil/mechanical interfaces desirable.
  • Good knowledge of pipework, tanks/vessels, steelwork, heat exchangers.
  • Experience in punchlist checks and QA/QC.
  • Excellent organization, delegation, and communication skills.
  • Proven experience of writing accurate and concise diaries.
  • Proven track record of working within a large construction team.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to maintain quality standards in a high-pressure environment.
  • Able to establish appropriate working relationships with contractors.
  • Working knowledge of relevant British and European standards, construction and design codes/guidelines.

  • Meet certain criteria to attain a minimum level of UK BPSS security clearance.
