Job Summary:

Kleinfelder, a leading professional services firm, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Transportation Construction Inspector Trainee to join our team. As a Transportation Construction Inspector Trainee, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and safety of highway construction projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site inspections of materials used by contractors to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Inspect various phases of contractor work to ensure proper highway construction.
  • Read and interpret construction plans for structures, bridges, and roadways, with a strong understanding of construction specifications, engineering tables, and reference materials.
  • Perform field tests and sampling for material specification compliance.
  • Document field inspections, pay quantities, and other important project information.

Requirements:

  • 0-1 year of experience in the transportation construction industry, preferably in paving/asphalt, surveying, traffic signals, flagging/traffic control, and road or bridge construction and maintenance.
  • Willingness to learn VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, as well as construction project documentation procedures, and earn field material certifications.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; some education/training in civil engineering, construction technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Industry and VDOT certifications are preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to read, write, comprehend, and speak English fluently.
  • Attendance, punctuality, and reliability are essential requirements.
  • Technical knowledge or familiarity with the use of PC-based computer systems and/or tablet systems.
  • Current/valid State Driver's License is required, with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint/background check is required.
