Magnet Medical is seeking a skilled CT Technologist to join their team in Bay City, Michigan. As a CT Scanner Specialist, you will play a vital role in diagnostic imaging, ensuring patients receive high-quality care.
Job Summary:
- Operate computed tomography (CT) scanners to perform diagnostic imaging procedures for patients
- Prepare patients for CT scans by explaining the procedure, answering any questions, and ensuring they are comfortable
- Position patients properly on the CT table to obtain the necessary images, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the process
- Administer contrast agents or dye injections under physician or radiologist guidance to enhance image clarity during certain CT procedures
Responsibilities:
Patient Preparation and CommunicationYou will be responsible for preparing patients for CT scans by explaining the procedure, answering any questions, and ensuring they are comfortable. This includes verifying patient information, including medical history, allergies, and prior imaging, to ensure accurate diagnosis and appropriate imaging protocols.
Additionally, you will position patients properly on the CT table to obtain the necessary images, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the process. Instructing patients on how to hold their breath or remain still during scans, as required by the procedure, is also an essential part of this role.
Operation of CT EquipmentAs a CT Scanner Specialist, you will operate and calibrate the CT scanner, ensuring proper settings for each scan, including parameters such as radiation dose, slice thickness, and imaging protocols. You will also administer contrast agents or dye injections under physician or radiologist guidance to enhance image clarity during certain CT procedures.
Maintaining a sterile, safe, and clean environment in the CT room, ensuring all equipment is sanitized between patients, is crucial to this role. You will also monitor patients for any adverse reactions to contrast agents and alert the physician or healthcare provider if necessary.
Image Quality and ReviewYou will review the CT images for quality, ensuring that all required areas are captured and the images meet diagnostic standards. Working closely with radiologists to ensure that images are of sufficient quality to support diagnosis is also an essential part of this role.
Repeat or adjust scans as necessary to improve image quality or ensure comprehensive imaging coverage. Documenting patient information, scan parameters, contrast media used, and any complications in the electronic health record (EHR) is also critical to this role.
Patient Safety and ComfortFocusing on patient safety and comfort is paramount in this role. Follow safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure to patients, including using the lowest possible dose for effective imaging and utilizing shielding where appropriate.
Ensuring proper patient positioning to prevent any risk of injury or discomfort during the scan, especially for vulnerable patients such as those with spinal injuries, mobility challenges, or pregnant patients, is also crucial. Maintaining a sterile, safe, and clean environment in the CT room, ensuring all equipment is sanitized between patients, is also essential.
Collaboration and CommunicationWorking closely with physicians, radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to determine the appropriate imaging procedures and assist in diagnosing medical conditions is an essential part of this role. Participating in patient care planning, discussing with the team how to best approach imaging in complex cases, is also critical.
Documenting patient information, scan parameters, contrast media used, and any complications in the electronic health record (EHR) is also a key responsibility. Keeping accurate logs of equipment use, maintenance, and any repairs or service performed is also important.
Equipment Maintenance and TroubleshootingMaintaining, cleaning, and performing basic troubleshooting on the CT scanner and associated equipment is essential to this role. Performing routine inspections and calibration of CT equipment and alerting maintenance staff to any malfunctioning or unsafe equipment is also critical.
Keeping accurate logs of equipment use, maintenance, and any repairs or service performed is also important. Ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, safety standards, and Joint Commission guidelines, is also essential.
A salary range of $60,000 to $90,000 per year is estimated based on the job requirements and location. The pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36.0 hours per week (subject to confirmation). A tax-free stipend amount will be determined.
