Substance Abuse Counselor Specialist

About the Position

We are seeking a skilled Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team at Education & Training Resources LLC. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining an effective Trainee Employee Assistance Program (TEAP). This program aims to promote substance abuse awareness, prevention, and education among students.

Job Responsibilities

• Makes assessments of all students to determine those who might require interventions due to substance use.

• Conducts individual and group counseling for students who may require interventions.

• Participates in the orientation of new students during the Career Preparation Period.

• Ensures all students who test positive for drugs are retested within the 45-day Probationary Period.

• Provides follow-up counseling to students who have completed TEAP to encourage and prevent relapses.

• Provides prevention education training to student employees during all phases of the Job Corps program.

• Conducts in-service training sessions with both staff and students in all areas related to substance use and abuse.

• Collaborates with the Recreational department in developing leisure time activities and incentives to reinforce an alcohol and drug-free lifestyle.

• Recommends medical separations with reinstatement for students who require alcohol and other drug treatments.

• Acts as a liaison between center and agency resources and referral contacts.

• Maintains confidential reports and records on all referrals and cases.

Requirements

• State Certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) or must have CASAC-T and be able to show that you are in the process of obtaining the CASAC within one year of having the CASAC-T.

• Two years of related experience.

• Valid New York State driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $62,000 - $70,000 per year, depending on experience.
