Position Summary:
This role, as a Clinical Intern at Tri-County Human Services, encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities aimed at supporting the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of clients within our programs. Interns gain insight into the social, occupational, and recreational requirements of individuals in recovery, facilitating related activities. As integral members of a treatment team, these interns are enrolled students associated with a sponsoring college or university, focusing on learning and executing various tasks pertinent to the care and rehabilitation of our clients. Under the supervision of a licensed program manager or coordinator, interns engage in the planning, preparation, and delivery of services while making suitable referrals as part of the treatment team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in all activities associated with the social, recreational, and occupational rehabilitation of clients recovering from dual disorders in a clinical environment.
- Contribute to the development of educational materials for social rehabilitation and basic living skills training sessions; actively participate in classes and may lead discussions.
- Assist in creating activities for specialized programs and may serve on committees related to these initiatives.
- Collaborate with program supervisors and clinical staff regarding treatment during staff meetings, sharing and receiving information on client engagement and progress.
- Support clients in accessing substance abuse and mental health services as part of discharge planning.
- Help identify new referral sources for clients, which may include halfway houses, transitional housing, and mental health services.
- Conduct educational sessions on alcohol and drug awareness and provide additional educational services under the guidance of assigned clinical staff or program supervisors.
- May perform case management duties for clients, including maintaining case records and coordinating necessary services.
- Facilitate group counseling sessions as a group leader.
- Carry out other reasonable and related tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or GED is required, along with preferably one year of full-time experience in a mental health or addiction treatment environment. A two-year degree in Human Services may substitute for the one year of experience.
- Participation in a staff training program is mandatory.
