Position Overview

Klein & Hoffman is on the lookout for a Senior Structural Engineer with a focus on restoration and repair. The ideal candidate will possess a robust combination of technical expertise, project oversight capabilities, and business acumen. A minimum of 10 years of pertinent experience in structural engineering, particularly in the renovation and rehabilitation of existing concrete structures, is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate extensive restoration experience and comprehensive knowledge of rehabilitation practices within the construction sector.
  • Exhibit proficiency in working with historical construction materials and systems.
  • Review and interpret both contemporary and historical structural drawings effectively.
  • Conduct thorough visual and hands-on assessments, producing detailed condition assessment reports that include observations, conclusions, recommendations, and prioritization of repair options.
  • Utilize various destructive and non-destructive testing methods for concrete, steel, and timber.
  • Prepare design drawings and specifications, provide bidding services, and oversee construction phase activities including site visits and project meetings.
  • Manage project duties, ensuring effective client and team coordination, as well as control over schedule, budget, design, quality, and profitability.
  • Perform structural analysis through hand calculations and/or computer modeling to assess the capacity of existing structures or design enhancements.
  • Engage in structural analysis and rehabilitation design for various materials including concrete, steel, timber, and masonry.
  • Conduct code research and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Participate in professional organizations and networking opportunities.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior engineering staff.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in structural, civil, or architectural engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in structural engineering focused on evaluating and rehabilitating existing structures, particularly concrete.
  • Possess or be eligible to obtain a professional engineering license in the state of Illinois.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency in structural analysis and design across a variety of construction materials and methods.
  • Exhibit strong technical communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in using structural analytical and design software.
  • Skilled in AutoCAD or Revit.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Master's degree is advantageous.
  • Experience with parking garages and concrete repair is preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Capable of sitting or standing for extended periods.
  • Able to work from heights and navigate suspended scaffolding.
