As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at Barrett Industries, you will be responsible for diagnosing and performing major and minor repairs to a variety of fleet equipment, including front-end loaders, excavators, drag lines, and more. Main Responsibilities- Adopt a Safety-Centric Approach: Embody the company's safety culture and actively support all safety initiatives to ensure a safe working environment.
- Support Company Values: Promote and practice the company's core values, vision, and mission, adhering to the code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies.
- Diagnostic Expertise: Utilize diagnostic equipment, visual inspection, and other tools to identify faults or malfunctions and determine required repairs.
- Repair and Maintenance: Repair and replace damaged or worn parts, dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools, and operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
- Quality Assurance: Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
- Technical Knowledge: Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings to ensure proper operation of equipment.
- Installation and Replacement: Install new ignition systems, change/charge batteries, and replace transmissions and other parts.
- Equipment Inspection: Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and equipment, and make adjustments.
- Maintenance and Cleaning: Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
- Experience: 3 or more years of experience as a diesel/heavy equipment mechanic preferred.
- Skills: Proven experience with Cat, Komatsu, and Volvo equipment and diagnostic software, ability to follow verbal and written instructions, ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.
- Physical Demands: Able to lift or move up to 100 pounds, stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, and work in high and sometimes confined spaces, wet and/or dry conditions, and extreme heat and cold.
