OBJECTIVE: Deliver Attendant Care (ATC) services to Arion Care members and their families, enabling them to remain in their residences and engage in community activities. The role involves assisting with personal hygiene, daily living activities, and ensuring a safe and clean living environment. All services must adhere to relevant regulations and organizational policies.



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


• Minimum age of 18 years.

• Successful completion of a background check.

• Ability to obtain a DPS fingerprint clearance card (FPCC).
-- Immediate Family Members (IFMs) may use a National Background Check as a substitute for the FPCC.

• A minimum of 3 months experience in providing support for essential personal physical needs such as bathing, toileting, and eating. Nursing experience or a CNA license is preferred.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Uphold respect and promote individual choice.

• Advocate for the rights of individuals receiving support, fostering an environment free from abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

• Assist members with safe transfers in and out of beds, baths, wheelchairs, or vehicles.

• Aid members with dressing and grooming tasks (e.g., selecting and changing clothes, fastening braces, oral hygiene, nail care, shaving, and hairstyling).

• Support members with hygiene and bathing needs (e.g., washing, drying, transferring, adjusting water temperature, and setting up equipment).

• Provide assistance with toileting (e.g., reminders, clothing management, cleaning of catheter or ostomy bags).

• Help with household tasks such as changing linens, laundry, and cleaning living areas.

• Plan, shop for, and/or prepare nutritious meals for members or assist them in meal planning and preparation.

• Aid members with eating and drinking.

• Perform general housekeeping duties, including cooking, cleaning, and dishwashing.

• Execute various tasks as requested by members, such as obtaining household supplies or running errands.

• Guide members in simple prescribed exercises or in the use of braces or prosthetics.

• Assist with self-directed medication administration or reminders, following the written instructions of the Primary Care Provider (PCP) or home care nurse, ensuring proper consumption and documentation as necessary.

• Accompany members to healthcare appointments or other outings.

• Provide transportation if approved as a driver, along with assistance and companionship.

• Carry out prescribed tasks to maintain and monitor members' skin integrity.

• Participate in Attendant Care Supervisory visits.

• Attend to the needs of certified service animals.

• Administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid when necessary and address injuries or illnesses appropriately.

• Engage with members to promote mental well-being, alertness, and orientation.

• Complete delegated tasks within the defined scope while collaborating with nursing services, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.

• Provide general supervision for members who cannot be safely left alone.



TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:


• CPR and First Aid certification.

• Direct Care Worker (DCW) Fundamentals, Developmental Disabilities (if applicable), Aging/Physically Disabled (if applicable).

• Training on Slips, Trips, and Falls.

• Cultural Competency training.

• Driver training if necessary.

• Additional training as required.


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:


• May require the ability to physically assist individuals, including lifting and transferring.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs or utilize mechanical lifting devices as needed.

• May necessitate walking, kneeling, standing, and bending to assist individuals with daily living activities, hygiene, mobility, and cleaning.

• Patience and the capacity to exercise restraint and self-control in potentially challenging situations.

• Ability to respond swiftly to health, safety, and emergency situations.


EQUIPMENT USAGE:


• Computer, Internet, and Cell Phone.

• May involve the use of household appliances and tools: washers, dryers, vacuums, dishwashers, mops, brooms, and common household cleaning chemicals.

• May require a vehicle for transporting individuals.

• May involve assistance with adaptive or durable medical equipment.
