Job Summary

The Division of Cultural & Communication Studies at Southern Nazarene University is seeking adjunct faculty members to join its adjunct pool for English. As an adjunct instructor, you will be employed on a course-by-course basis, depending on the curricular offerings and course enrollments in any given semester.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach courses at assigned days and times, utilizing division curriculum that addresses particular learning outcomes and the needs of students.
  • Plan lessons that incorporate technology to enhance instruction and assessment.
  • Design, administer, and grade assessments to measure student learning.
  • Gather and submit a sample of course assignments as requested for documentation for the SNU General Education Committee.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date grading in the Learning Management System.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date attendance records in the university-required system.
  • Set up and make proper use of a Learning Management System site for assigned course(s).
  • Administer a final exam on the day and time scheduled by the university.
  • Submit final grades as required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to operate office equipment.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A strong personal Christian commitment and commitment to the SNU mission to make Christlike disciples through higher education in a Christ-centered community.
  • An understanding of the importance of diversity, inclusion, and equity.
  • A Master's Degree in English or 18 credit hours in graduate-level courses in English.
  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Typing and spelling competency.
  • Experience with various computer software applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A terminal degree in English.
  • An emphasis in Composition.
  • Experience in face-to-face classroom instruction at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience using discovery learning or inquiry-based learning for instruction.
  • Experience using the Canvas learning management system.
Supervision and Work Environment

Receives supervision and work assignments from a designated chair, although other staff members in the unit may provide work direction.
