Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under close supervision and in accordance with their level of expertise, the Cylindrical Grinder Operator is tasked with the setup and operation of precision cylindrical grinding machines. This role involves executing precision grinding of components according to client specifications while ensuring quality workmanship through the use of precision measuring tools and various machinist hand tools. The operator will interpret technical drawings, sketches, and engineering specifications, assemble precision components into the grinding machine, and determine the necessary materials, parts, and equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Grinds metal components to meet customer specifications and established performance criteria.
  • Ensures quality workmanship by utilizing precision measuring instruments and entering data into the Statistical Process Control (SPC) system.
  • Consults technical sheets, blueprints, or purchase orders to confirm parts are ground to the correct dimensions.
  • Adheres to scheduled workflows based on assigned priorities and communicates any deviations to the department manager.
  • Aims for enhanced performance and makes necessary adjustments to equipment and setups.
  • Monitors equipment maintenance with guidance from senior personnel.
  • Complies with safety regulations.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic proficiency in mathematics and English reading skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, tech sheets, and purchase orders.
  • Proficient in using precision measuring and inspection tools such as micrometers and height gauges.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with grinding machines (e.g., Cincinnati Centerless Grinder, CNC Studer grinder).
  • Experience in the aerospace industry is preferred.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including weekends, as necessary.
