Recreation Therapist 2

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist 2 to join our team at the Department of Children, Youth, and Families. As a Recreation Therapist 2, you will play a critical role in planning, organizing, and leading therapeutic recreation activities to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of individual residents at Eco Glen Children's Center.
Key Responsibilities:- Assess, plan, develop, implement, and modify therapeutic recreation services to meet the individual needs of a co-educational offender population with varying degrees of mental health and security requirements.
- Provide interventions with youth to reduce the use of isolation and room confinement.
- Perform therapeutic recreation assessments of residents.
- Plan, organize, and implement therapeutic recreation Plan of Care to meet the needs of individual residents.
- Facilitate improvement of social, cognitive, emotional, and physical functional abilities.
- Organize and lead recreational therapy activities.
- Help youth identify goals and link them to opportunities and resources on campus to aid in goal-directed behaviors.
- Work in aquatics and one or more skill areas, directing, conducting, or instructing in programs of sports, music, arts, and crafts.
- Develop and procure programming that is specific to addressing egregious behaviors that would lead to room confinement.
- Use evidence-based interventions, specifically DBT.
- Attend to security responses for aggressive behaviors and provide the opportunity to remove non-aggressive youth from the unit and engage in programming to allow for de-escalation without confining other youth.
- Direct, train, and coordinate the work of recreation therapy students and/or volunteers in therapeutic recreational procedures.
- Perform basic data entry and retrieval functions using an electronic management information system.
- Graduation from an accredited Therapeutic Recreation Program, AND 18 months of professional therapeutic recreation experience.
- OR Equivalent education/experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of adolescent development and juvenile rehabilitation practices and principles.
- Experience providing cognitive/behavioral therapeutic interventions.
- Demonstrated competency in relating to clients from diverse backgrounds and cultural groups.
- Knowledge of principles and techniques of group and individual therapeutic recreation.
- Knowledge and training in aquatics, arts, and crafts, music, and sports.
- Principles of supervision.
- Basic knowledge of pool operations and health and safety codes to develop and teach various swim classes for all levels and abilities.
