Job Summary

Trinity University seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre to join our Department of Human Communication and Theatre. The successful candidate will have a strong background in theatre/performance history and directing, with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence and a passion for mentoring undergraduate students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach theatre/performance history and directing courses, including the department's History of Theatre sequence and Play Structure and Analysis.
  • Direct regularly as part of the Trinity Theatre Mainstage Season.
  • Contribute to teaching the First-Year Experience and other courses in Pathways, the University's interdisciplinary general education program.
  • Engage in research and scholarship in theatre studies and/or performance studies, with a focus on publishing research and presenting papers at academic conferences.
  • Participate in departmental and university service, including advising majors and contributing to departmental and university committees.

Requirements

  • PhD or DFA in Theatre, Drama, or Performance Studies with degree in hand or plan to complete program's PhD or DFA degree requirements by August 2025.
  • Graduate study and expertise in theatre/performance history.
  • Research/scholarship expertise in theatre studies and/or performance studies.
  • Directing experience at the university or professional level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated record of teaching excellence and a passion for mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Active research agenda in theatre studies and/or performance studies.
