Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech Pathologist 1 to join our team at the University of Miami Health System. As a Speech Pathologist 1, you will be responsible for initiating speech and language services for patients enrolled in assigned facilities, administering speech and language evaluations and therapy services for patients enrolled in applicable school programs, and participating in a multidisciplinary team to propose treatment strategies and achieve functional outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluation and Treatment: Evaluate, plan, and implement speech-language pathology and listening and spoken language treatment for children who are deaf and hard of hearing who are enrolled in Debbie School programs.
  • Team Collaboration: Participate in a multidisciplinary team to propose treatment strategies and achieve functional outcomes.
  • Program Development: Assist in the developments, plans, and implements a program for generalization of speech and language goals for both home-based and center-based students.
  • Classroom-Based Therapy: Contribute to implementing classroom-based therapy models and techniques to coincide with program philosophy.
  • Natural Environment Therapy: Coordinates therapy in a natural environment whenever possible.
  • Consultation and Collaboration: Consults with classroom teachers to implement speech therapy goals in the classroom.
  • Assistive Technology: Evaluates, plans, and implements the use of assistive technology in classrooms.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Initiates the speech language pathology evaluations, quarterly progress notes, Medicaid notes, plans of care, family support plan goals, and final discharge summaries.
  • Parent and Staff Education: Participates in the instruction with parents and classroom staff on appropriate communication strategies to facilitate skill generalization.
  • Grant Writing and Administration: Assist with grant writing and administration as required.
  • Licensure and Certification: Maintain Florida licensure for Speech Language Pathology.
  • Compliance and Adherence: Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Requirements
  • Education: Master's Degree in speech therapy from an accredited speech therapy program.
  • Certification: Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association or be engaged in their Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).
  • Licensure: Professional or a provisional license of Speech & Language Pathology with the State of Florida.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Skills: Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Commitment to the University's core values. Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
