As an Unarmed Security Officer I, your primary responsibility will be to maintain a secure atmosphere for patients, staff, and visitors.

You will conduct regular patrols of the facility, respond to requests for assistance, and document any conditions or incidents that may affect the safety and security of individuals on site. You will also provide mentorship and training to fellow security personnel, stepping into leadership roles as necessary.

Our officers play a crucial role in a 24/7 operational setting and may need to adapt to varying schedules, including working during off-peak hours. You may be required to obtain and uphold the necessary commission to perform duties related to crime prevention and response as an Unarmed Officer, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promptly address emergencies to provide essential support to staff and visitors. Carry out designated security patrols throughout the premises as instructed. You may be tasked with patrolling the grounds on foot, by vehicle, or by bicycle. Monitor access points and inspect belongings of individuals exiting the facility. Document all safety, security, and legal infractions. Observe and maintain the security and appearance of public areas, including lobbies and entrances.
  • Conduct patrols of the facility using a security vehicle or bicycle. Prepare and submit detailed reports and logs of incidents, investigations, and activities. Maintain accurate departmental records and files. Employ nonviolent crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies to ensure the safety and respect of all individuals present.
  • Assist with navigation, parking, deliveries, and other inquiries related to the hospital and its affiliates. Respond to security alerts and medical emergencies. Investigate incidents and collect relevant information and evidence. Notify the appropriate authorities or supervisors and request additional support when necessary.
  • Provide testimony in legal proceedings, hearings, and trials. Safeguard patient valuables and manage lost-and-found items. Monitor surveillance systems and other security technologies as directed. Respond to situations where law enforcement authority may be necessary.
Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in security, corrections, or law enforcement.
  • 1-2 years of experience within MedStar may substitute for direct law enforcement experience.
  • Valid driver's license with appropriate endorsements.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • SPO certification.
IAHSS certification is preferred.
