Position Overview
The Speech Language Pathologist embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards. This is a flat rate position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and diagnose speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders.
- Gather background information prior to evaluation to determine appropriate assessments.
- Analyze the history and severity of the disorder through comprehensive chart reviews and interviews with patients, physicians, and family members.
- Administer, score, and interpret both formal and informal assessments to evaluate the type and extent of dysfunction.
- Identify the need for referrals to other disciplines or medical professionals.
- Educate patients and their families about the nature and extent of the disability, prognosis for improvement, and strategies to facilitate recovery within the scope of practice.
- Develop and implement treatment plans for individuals with identified disorders.
- Plan, direct, and conduct personalized rehabilitation and counseling programs.
- Establish measurable and realistic goals for therapy.
- Adjust treatment plans based on patient progress towards goals.
- Design therapeutic interventions to enhance communication or swallowing efficiency, tailored to the specific needs and abilities of patients.
- Maintain accurate records as mandated by law, policy, and Medicare regulations; document diagnostic findings, therapy plans, goals, and progress notes.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to coordinate treatment and determine the necessity for referrals.
- Ensure patient and environmental safety during all procedures.
- Utilize standard equipment relevant to the role.
- Provide information, education, and training related to Speech-Language Pathology.
- Participate in care conferences, staffing, and discharge planning.
- Document diagnostic findings, therapy plans, goals, and progress notes according to departmental policy.
- Develop and deliver in-service training and educational programs for the department, hospital, and community.
- Mentor and supervise graduate students as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- 1 to 7 years of relevant work experience, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of job responsibilities and methodologies.
- Master's degree or equivalent.
- Extensive knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices within the professional discipline and their application in the workplace.
- IDPR licensure required within 9 months of employment.
- CCC-A certification required within one year of employment.
