A Government customer located in the NYC area is seeking a dedicated and experienced Fireproofing Inspector to join their team for the current JFK International Airport construction project. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of engineering experience and at least 3 years of field construction inspection experience, with a focus on fireproofing systems. This role involves inspecting the application and installation of fireproofing materials in both new and existing construction projects, ensuring compliance with all safety codes, standards, and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Fireproofing Inspection: Conduct on-site inspections of fireproofing applications, including spray-applied fire-resistive materials (SFRM), intumescent coatings, and firestopping systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and safety codes.

Field Construction Inspection: Verify that fireproofing materials are installed correctly in accordance with approved designs and construction documents. Ensure proper surface preparation, thickness, adhesion, and coverage of fireproofing materials.

Code Compliance: Ensure all fireproofing installations meet local, state, and federal fire safety regulations, including compliance with applicable standards such as NFPA, IBC, and ASTM.

Testing & Certification: Conduct field testing of fireproofing materials as required, including adhesion testing, density checks, and thickness measurements. Certify that systems meet required fire-resistance ratings.

Issue Resolution: Identify any defects, deviations, or non-conformance during the inspection process, and collaborate with contractors and engineers to develop corrective actions.

Documentation: Prepare detailed inspection reports, documenting findings, test results, and any corrective actions required. Maintain accurate records of inspections and material certifications.

Safety Monitoring: Ensure that all fireproofing activities adhere to relevant safety protocols, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and hazard communication.

Project Coordination: Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and project managers to ensure fireproofing applications align with project schedules and specifications. Attend project meetings to discuss progress and any potential issues.

Quality Assurance: Verify that materials used meet project requirements and are applied in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. Ensure that fireproofing systems are properly installed in critical areas such as structural steel, mechanical penetrations, and electrical components.

Training & Development: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior inspectors and construction staff on fireproofing methods, techniques, and safety protocols.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience.

At least 3 years of field construction inspection experience, with a focus on fireproofing or related disciplines.

Ability to communicate and interact effectively with design and field engineers/architects, project managers, contract engineers, schedulers, and financial analysts

Demonstrated experience performing inspection services in highly congested urban areas

Valid Driver's license

SIDA Badge (or credentials to secure such)

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and/or Secure Worker Access Consortium (SWAC) certification (or ability to secure such)

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with large-scale commercial or industrial construction projects.

Familiarity with firestopping systems, intumescent coatings, and other passive fire protection methods.

Knowledge of structural fire protection systems for steel and concrete structures.
