Job Summary

The Quinsigamond Community College is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Technology Lab Assistant to join our team. As a Surgical Technology Lab Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Surgical Technology Program by observing and providing feedback to students performing surgical procedures and techniques in a non-patient contact environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure Student Safety and Compliance
    • Ensure students are using proper techniques of disinfection, sterilization, and antisepsis.
    • Prepares demonstrations, organizing supplies/equipment.
  • Assist Instructors and Monitor Student Performance
    • Assist instructors with demonstrations and monitoring of student performance.
    • Notifies the Surgical Technology Program Coordinator of equipment repair, maintenance, and replacement needs.
  • Lab Management and Compliance
    • Ensures surgical technology lab in compliance with college safety policies.
    • Provides feedback to students during lab demonstration of lab skills. Lab skills include positioning, scrubbing, gowning, gloving, establishment of a sterile field, and proper use utilization of instruments, supplies, and equipment.
    • Monitors students using laparoscopic simulation.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping
    • Maintains documentation of skills as required by program accreditor.

Requirements

  • Education and Certification
    • Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
    • Be credentialed as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • Experience and Skills
    • Have a minimum total of two years of experience either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology (or a combination of both) within the past five years.
    • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Previous experience working in an educational setting as a lab assistant.
