Position Summary:

Responsible for capturing x-ray images of specific areas of the human body for diagnostic evaluation and providing essential support to the imaging department. This role focuses solely on plain films and fluoroscopy.

Core Responsibilities and Qualifications:

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Communicates procedures to patients to ensure comprehension and provides relevant educational resources.
  • Facilitates patient transport to and from clinical areas, confirming patient identity in accordance with established protocols. Aids technologists in preparing patients for radiological examinations by positioning them appropriately.
  • Assists technologists with managing patient reports and charts, ensuring films are correctly matched to folders, and delivering reports to patient units or physicians.
  • Adheres to radiation safety protocols to minimize unnecessary exposure.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media and medications in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Monitors patients during procedures and reports any irregularities. Evaluates protocols and suggests improvements as necessary.
  • Ensures timely submission of high-quality images and documentation to PACS, maintaining accuracy in lead markers and patient data/history.
  • Checks that equipment is functioning correctly and reports any potential issues to the appropriate personnel. Implements lock/tag out procedures as needed.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization within the department, including procedure rooms and storage areas.
  • May perform limited CT procedures in emergency situations when a CT Technologist is unavailable.
  • Operates in a state of constant alertness and safety.
  • Completes additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate's degree or completion of a radiology certification program.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • No prior experience necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Regular standing and walking.
  • Frequent visual acuity and depth perception for near and far distances.
  • Regular auditory communication for sharing information.
  • Frequent lifting and moving of patients and objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting of objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Frequent use of hands for gripping and data entry.
  • Occasional bending and stooping.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED

State-specific certifications and licenses are required based on the location of employment. This includes Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and ARRT-R Radiography certification.
