Job Summary

The Unit Manager Registered Nurse is a key member of the MediLodge of Okemos team, responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a nursing unit in a long-term care healthcare facility.

Responsibilities
  • Directs the entire operation of a nursing unit, ensuring the highest quality of care for residents.
  • Performs general management functions, including hiring, disciplining, and evaluating employees.
  • Plans and facilitates meetings and committees to address resident care issues.
  • Manages area of responsibility to achieve and maintain the highest quality of care possible.
  • Participates in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs that promote the recruitment, retention, development, and continuing education of nursing staff members.
  • Contacts physicians as necessary and ensures timely and appropriate interventions.
  • Reviews staffing patterns and census of nursing units, reassigning personnel as needed to ensure staffing meets resident needs and budgetary controls.
  • Monitors clinical operations and resident conditions, ensuring appropriate and quality care is administered.
  • Obtains medications, supplies, and medical records needed to provide safe, efficient, and therapeutic care to residents.
  • Assists in the orientation of new personnel, monitors their skills, and guides and observes staff that may need assistance with procedures.
  • Participates in facility quality assurance programs.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, degree preferred.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) (if state requires).
  • Valid CPR teaching certificate, if applicable.
  • Three years of nursing experience, with one year in a long-term care environment.
