Position Overview

This role is situated within the Natural Resource Management Division, focusing on ecological preservation and management.

Eligibility

This position is available to qualified candidates.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  • Execute established ecological management initiatives.
  • Adhere to protocols and standardized methodologies, gather and organize field data, and ensure thorough quality assurance of the data collected.
  • Conduct field assessments of ecological conditions, analyze observed situations, and make initial evaluations regarding the causes of identified issues.
  • Assist in drafting reports, plans, and guidelines. Project reports may encompass literature reviews, methodological descriptions, graphical representations, and summaries of findings.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain ecological management tools and equipment (including sampling, monitoring, photographic, and laboratory instruments).
  • Offer guidance, support, and training to students, conservation interns, and volunteers engaged in ecological management projects and field studies.
  • Provide information to colleagues and visitors regarding the ecological management program. May develop and deliver related educational programs to the public.

Location and Housing Information:

The position is located in a national park with a semi-arid climate characterized by hot summers and mild winters, offering ample sunshine and low humidity.

Work Schedule:

This is a Career-Seasonal position, subject to release and recall procedures. The role guarantees a minimum of six months of work per year, with the potential for up to 50 weeks, depending on project needs or environmental conditions.

Employment Conditions

  • Compliance with Selective Service Registration Act is mandatory for male applicants.
  • Participation in the Direct Deposit Electronic Funds Transfer Program is required.

  • Uniform compliance with National Park Service standards is expected, with a uniform allowance provided.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required.
  • New federal employees must complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be necessary.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Credit will be given for all relevant experience. To receive credit, your resume must clearly indicate the nature of duties and responsibilities for each position held.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-04 level in the federal service, which includes conducting ecological field studies and data collection.
  • Education: Completion of at least four years of education beyond high school leading to a bachelor's degree with a major in a relevant field, or a combination of education and experience as described above.

Volunteer Experience: Experience may include paid and unpaid work, including volunteer roles that contribute to the required competencies and skills.

Education Documentation: To qualify based on education, a legible copy of transcripts must be submitted, reflecting relevant coursework and grades.
