Hormel Foods Corporation is a global branded food company with a strong commitment to food safety. The company is seeking a Food Safety Scientist to join its team in Willmar, MN.

The Food Safety Scientist will play a critical role in developing and validating safe food processes, conducting microbiological challenge studies, and managing multiple projects. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's or master's degree in Meat Science, Poultry Science, Microbiology, or a related field, and experience with manufacturing processing equipment and/or verification/validation of that equipment.

The salary for this position is estimated to be around $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a competitive base salary plus bonus, annual merit increase performance reviews, medical, dental, vision, non-contributory pension, profit sharing, 401(k), stock purchase plan, relocation assistance, and paid vacation.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and Validates Safe Food Processes: The Food Safety Scientist will develop and validate safe food processes, conduct microbiological challenge studies, and manage multiple projects.
  • Manages Multiple Projects: The ideal candidate will have experience managing multiple projects of various degrees of difficulty and contribute to portions of more complex or technical projects as part of a larger team.
  • Plans, Conducts, and Analyzes Tests: The Food Safety Scientist will plan, conduct, and analyze tests unsupervised and complete data analysis, evaluation, and conclusions.
  • Completes Data Analysis and Evaluation: The ideal candidate will be competent in presenting recommendations in written and oral formats.
  • Identifies, Facilitates, and Conducts Research: The Food Safety Scientist will identify, facilitate, devise, and conduct research in microbiology for validation of pathogen interventions/processes.
  • Ensures Company Policies and Laws are Followed: The ideal candidate will ensure that all solutions are properly labeled, properly stored, and that current material safety data sheets (MSDS) are available for all the chemicals used in the laboratory.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A bachelor's or master's degree in Meat Science, Poultry Science, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Experience with manufacturing processing equipment and/or verification/validation of that equipment.
  • Skills: Ability to effectively work independently and as part of a team-environment, strong analytical, time management, and record keeping skills, and highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
