Job Title: School Nurse

New Story School is seeking a qualified School Nurse to play a vital role in the success of our students. The successful candidate will oversee and implement the health program in the school, focusing on the needs of individual students and the entire student population.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive school health services program in accordance with state regulations and organizational policies.
  • Consult with leadership to establish, review, and revise school health policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with staff to address student health conditions and their impact on learning and behavior.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and staff regarding student health services.
  • Provide staff training on first aid, CPR, AED, and emergency medication use.
  • Perform mandated screenings for students, including those with special healthcare needs.
  • Provide first aid for illnesses and injuries, and manage medical emergencies.
  • Monitor students for communicable illnesses and notify families of exposure.
  • Review and monitor student immunization status to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Administer prescribed medications and oversee emergency medication use.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individual health plans and emergency care plans.
  • Maintain student records, including medical history, physicals, immunizations, and orders.
  • Document health services provided to students, including nursing assessments, diagnoses, and treatments.
  • Maintain medication administration records, including documentation of medication errors.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
  • Ability to perform non-violent crisis intervention techniques, including verbal and physical redirection.
  • Ability to react quickly and be sufficiently mobile to redirect students in crisis situations.
  • Ability to physically assist with evacuating students during emergency situations.
  • Full certification in assigned crisis management programs.
