The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, a leading academic medical center, is seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse (RN) for the Lower Level Short Stay Unit (LL JCP). This unit is integral to our Medical Surgical Services (MSS) Division, featuring 30 private patient rooms designed for patients requiring observation or recovery care.
Our diverse patient population includes both medical and surgical cases, typically admitted for a short duration of 24-48 hours. Common medical observation diagnoses include chest pain, abdominal pain, back pain, and syncope, while surgical recovery encompasses various procedures under orthopedics, urology, plastics, and cardiology. Our focus is on teamwork to deliver high-quality, compassionate care, ensuring patients receive the necessary education for a safe transition home.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize nursing theory for assessing, diagnosing, treating, and evaluating patient responses to health conditions.
- Evaluate patient health care preferences and expectations.
- Coordinate care across various settings collaboratively.
- Develop comprehensive patient care plans tailored to individual conditions, age, and socio-economic factors.
- Implement care plans based on patient priorities, documenting interventions and responses.
- Integrate contributions from patients and families into the multidisciplinary care plan.
- Oversee transfer and discharge planning throughout the care episode.
- Adhere to departmental policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment for all.
Location: Iowa City, Iowa
Salary: Minimum of $60,000, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, or a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong interpersonal skills with patients, families, and team members.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including experience with databases and Microsoft Excel.
- Current Iowa nursing license required by the date of hire.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is highly preferred.
- Active enrollment in a BSN program if the degree is not yet obtained.
