About the Job

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the Irving Independent School District team as a skilled Carpenter. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of carpentry work and cabinet shop fabrication to ensure the safety and attractiveness of our educational and work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform carpentry work and cabinet shop fabrication as assigned, ensuring the highest level of quality and attention to detail.
  • Project Management: Determine the best approach to solving tasks, outline projects, and work with minimal oversight to ensure timely completion.
  • Materials Management: Review and inspect assigned tasks to adequately order required materials and supplies for the job.
  • Blueprint Reading: Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and schematic drawings connected to tasks.
  • Quality Control: Determine the soundness of wood and assorted surfaces in products, making minimal repairs and patches as needed.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, preferred; Carpentry certification, trade school training, or apprentice background, preferred.
  • Experience: Three years documented carpentry experience, required.
  • Skills: Knowledge and skill of carpentry in accordance with industry standards, ability to use hand and power tools, and demonstrate proper carpentry techniques and methods.
  • Physical Demands: Frequent standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting; lifting and carrying up to 55 pounds without assistance, more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance, on a daily basis.
Working Conditions
  • Work Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and on ladders or scaffolding; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, humidity, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, asbestos-containing materials, grease, oils, loud noises, vibration, and electrical hazards.
  • Travel: Frequent District-wide travel.
