Job Summary

The Laborer I performs routine manual tasks as part of a roadway maintenance crew under the close supervision of the Foreman or Lead Man. The employee drives a light truck or tractor, patches roads, spreads asphalt, and shovels materials. The employee also operates simple hand tools and performs flagman duties.

Essential Functions
  1. Equipment Operation: Operates light equipment using proper safety gear to perform various road and ROW maintenance operations in a safe and proper manner.
  2. Equipment Maintenance: Performs routine and preventative maintenance on assigned vehicle, including daily vehicle safety and maintenance inspections, preventative maintenance, and monitoring mileage.
  3. Manual Labor: Performs manual labor tasks following departmental policies and procedures, including flagman duties, shoveling asphalt and materials, and loading and unloading construction materials and supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Ability to read and write.
  2. Possess a current and valid driver's license.
  3. Ability to travel throughout the County.
  4. Ability to work overtime or non-standard hours as required.
