Position Overview:
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for executing diagnostic PET/CT and CT imaging procedures as prescribed by physicians, ensuring high standards of patient care throughout the process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct all Nuclear Medicine procedures in compliance with the regulations set forth by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC).
- Prepare, administer, and measure radioactive isotopes for both therapeutic and diagnostic imaging studies using various equipment.
- Communicate procedures to patients effectively to alleviate concerns and secure their cooperation.
- Position equipment accurately and adjust controls to establish exposure parameters such as duration and distance.
- Maintain and calibrate radioisotope and laboratory apparatus according to the established calibration schedule.
- Ensure all radioactive materials are surveyed, logged, and disposed of in accordance with DHEC standards.
- Implement radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure to patients and staff.
- Oversee quality control measures and reporting for the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
- Manage radiation monitoring devices and ensure proper registration of radiology equipment.
- Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations related to radiology practices.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on all imaging equipment.
- Order and maintain inventory of all radiology supplies.
- Additional duties may be assigned to support our mission of providing high-quality and compassionate cancer care.
- Possession of SC Radiation Quality Standards Association License and registration with The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), as well as certification from the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB).
- Graduation from an American Medical Association (AMA) accredited radiography program.
- Experience and training sufficient to independently perform PET/CT procedures.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in Diagnostic Imaging.
- Familiarity with Nuclear Medicine procedures and protocols.
- Understanding of anatomy and physiology relevant to X-Ray testing, including patient handling and movement.
- Knowledge of radiology equipment and associated safety hazards.
- Proficiency in patient positioning techniques.
- Ability to prepare and administer contrast materials competently.
- Skill in identifying and resolving equipment issues.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive patient information.
