Job Summary:

Blackburn, Childers & Steagall, PLC is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Tax Manager to join our team in our Boone, NC office. As a key member of our tax team, you will be responsible for managing and mentoring team members, reviewing and managing tax engagements, and assuming full responsibility for directing large engagements and special assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Team Management: Manage and mentor members of the tax team to greater levels of effectiveness and engagement, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles.
  • Tax Engagement Management: Review and manage tax engagements, ensuring that they are completed on time and to the highest standards of quality.
  • Direction and Supervision: Assume full responsibility for directing large engagements and special assignments, supervising the assignment of duties to, and the training of, staff and senior accountants assigned to engagements.
  • Control Procedures: Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process, ensuring that all tax returns and other tax-related documents are accurate and compliant with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrate a high level of technical proficiency in tax law and regulations, as well as a strong understanding of business issues relating to complex transactions.
  • Client Communication: Work and communicate effectively with clients to enhance their understanding of business and tax issues, providing expert advice and guidance to help them make informed decisions.
  • Legislative and Regulatory Updates: Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to the tax team, and ensure that all team members are aware of any changes that may impact their work.
  • IRS and Department of Revenue Communication: Review and correspond with the IRS and Department of Revenue as it relates to audits and notifications, ensuring that all communications are accurate and compliant with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Firm Software Packages: Demonstrate an awareness of firm software packages and the ability to use such software effectively and efficiently, ensuring that all tax-related tasks are completed accurately and on time.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting required; master's degree in accounting preferred.
  • Experience: 5 years of experience in preparing and reviewing individual, partnership and corporate tax returns with a familiarity of payroll tax, sales tax and general bookkeeping.
  • CPA License: Current CPA license required.
