Postdoctoral Research Associate

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Scholar Research Associate to join our team at the Penn State Fruit Research and Extension Center (FREC). The selected candidate will work in one or more areas, including detection and control systems for automation and mechanization, monitoring and data collection for precision agriculture, and design of optimal machine systems.

• Develop a ground-based spraying system for targeted chemical blossom thinning of apples
• Design a machine vision system for flower cluster detection and integrate it with the spraying system for precision crop thinning in apple orchards
• Design and implement research studies, collect and analyze data, and assist the group in preparing research results for publication
• Assist in other projects in the group, write project reports and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication
• Presentation of research results in scientific meetings and conferences

• Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in an appropriate field
• Good track record of peer-reviewed publications in machine systems, autonomous systems, sensing, and/or precision agriculture technologies
• Demonstrated experience in programming languages (Python, C/C++, Matlab, etc.)
• CAD modeling (SolidWorks), prototyping, and fabrication experience desired
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong time-management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects
