The Radiologic Imaging Specialist, under the guidance of the Medical Director and/or Section Head, along with the manager and Radiologist, performs technical imaging procedures and assists in the clinical assessment and care of patients.

This role involves utilizing specialized imaging modalities to produce diagnostic images while ensuring a safe and positive experience for patients.

The specialist will apply sound judgment regarding image quality and determine when retakes are necessary.

In radiation-producing modalities, the technologist will implement and uphold radiation safety protocols in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations.

Continuous professional development and support for educational initiatives are essential as technology evolves.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain proficient imaging skills in designated modalities.
  • Foster growth and development, contributing to a professional and progressive imaging department.
  • Assist physicians in all procedural aspects within the assigned area.
  • Ensure a safe and positive patient experience.
  • Handle sensitive situations (e.g., anxiety, cancer history) with empathy and support.
  • Act as a mentor and preceptor for new staff and students.
  • Support Albany Medical Center and the imaging department in maintaining necessary accreditations.
  • Accurately enter patient data into computer systems.
  • Check and document patient histories.
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities.
  • Perform quality assurance on images and patient information prior to submission to PACs.
  • Conduct routine and specialized mammography and related procedures.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Vocational School Diploma - Graduate of an accredited professional imaging program - required.
  • Associate's Degree (AS or AAS) - required.
  • Vocational School Diploma in X-ray - required.
  • Previous experience in stereotactic biopsy is preferred.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental policies, as well as New York State and accrediting agency standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Must possess current New York State registration or a limited permit to practice in New York upon hire - required.
  • ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists registration upon hire - required.
