The Newport News Sheriff's Office is seeking a skilled Medical Care Provider to join our team. As a Medical Care Provider, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to inmates detained in the Newport News City Jail and Annex.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and treat medical complaints and critical medical situations in accordance with recognized policies.
- Administer medications and treatments as ordered.
- Coordinate inmates' special dietary needs with dietary personnel.
- Ensure proper dispersion and destruction of unused prescription medications.
- Perform physical examinations on all inmates, including basic physical assessments and mental status examinations.
Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- 3-5 years of experience in providing medical care and treatment for various types of illnesses and injuries.
- Supervisory experience and/or experience in a correctional and/or psychiatric nursing environment preferred.
Working Conditions:
This position requires the ability to exert moderate physical effort, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Some lifting may be required.
