We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Storekeeper II to join our team at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. As a key member of our inventory management team, you will be responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing goods, materials, and supplies. Your expertise in inventory control and supply chain management will ensure that our facilities operate efficiently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities- Receive and inspect incoming goods to verify quality, quantity, and condition, using the FoodPro Software System to track and manage inventory.
- Store goods, supplies, and equipment in designated storage areas, maintaining a clean and organized environment.
- Issue supplies, materials, and equipment to users in accordance with established procedures, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
- Maintain accurate records of items received, issued, and shipped, using inventory management software to track and analyze data.
- Conduct physical inventory counts to reconcile stock records, detect spoilage or variances in quantity, and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Perform related duties such as loading and unloading items to and from trucks, maintaining the general appearance of stockrooms and warehouses, and operating mechanical or power-driven equipment to move materials.
- Maintain liaison with vendors and suppliers to exchange information, resolve issues, and negotiate contracts.
- Review storeroom records for accuracy, compliance with department procedures, and stock levels, making recommendations for process improvements.
- Review requisitions, invoices, orders, and other records to determine resources required to meet needs, ensure availability of goods, and verify accuracy and completeness of documents.
- Provide on-the-job training for subordinate employees engaged in receipt, storage, and delivery of goods in the assigned area.
- Oversee activities of subordinate storeroom workers to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver's License.
- High school diploma or equivalent, or two years of working experience in receiving, storing, and issue functions.
- Knowledge of preparation and packing of materials for shipping.
- Knowledge of storekeeping methods and practices, including handling equipment used in storekeeping and operating material handling equipment.
- Knowledge of food temperature and preservation of foods.
- Extensive knowledge of receiving methods and practices.
- Ability to prepare statistical reports defining types and volume of shipments, peak workloads, etc.
- Ability to prepare written correspondence on overdue orders or identified discrepancies.
- Physical ability to handle bulky or heavy stock items, equipment, and supplies within established health and safety standards.
- Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with other employees and the public.
- Knowledge of vehicles, material handling equipment, and minor preventative maintenance service.
- Ability to work accurately with names, numbers, codes, and/or symbols.
- Familiarity with office machines, including computers, FAX machines, word processing, and calculating equipment.
- Ability to balance, carry, pull/push, stand, bend, drive, reach, twist, lift, and perform repetitive movement.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs repeatedly and stand for hours at a time.
- May be exposed to the harmful effects of chemicals, gases, fumes, radioactive, and/or flammable materials and temperature extremes.
