POSITION OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE:
The Feed Production Specialist will ensure that SFI's objectives related to swine nutrition are achieved through the safe and efficient production, quality assurance, and distribution of feed and related products. Responsibilities include maintaining mill operations and adhering to biosecurity measures for the facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Mill Operations and Facility Management
- Responsible for mixing feed rations according to established schedules.
- Ensure that feed production and distribution processes align with SFI standards and goals.
- Guarantee timely and bio-secure manufacturing and delivery of rations.
- Implement and uphold biosecurity protocols.
- Receive and store shipments of supplies and ingredients, ensuring quality maintenance.
- Maintain accurate records of feed delivery and production as directed.
- Oversee the cleanliness and general upkeep of the mill and associated facilities.
- Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on-site as needed.
- Foster a safe working environment by adhering to SFI and regulatory safety guidelines.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Participate in product, safety, and regulatory training sessions as required.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and propose solutions.
- Maintain a positive demeanor and professional relationships with colleagues, producers, and vendors.
- Report significant issues to the appropriate supervisors.
Grain Handling Operations (if applicable):
- Assist with all aspects of grain receiving and storage, including:
- Weighing, grading, and processing grain tickets.
- Receiving and loading grain.
- Communicating with supervisors regarding grain quality and inventory concerns.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
- Position may require travel and non-standard hours.
- Involves prolonged periods of sitting or standing, as well as working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 55 pounds with reasonable accommodation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience or demonstrated ability in feed production (and/or grain handling, if applicable).
- Understanding of mechanical systems related to feed mills (and/or grain handling systems, if applicable).
- Ability to perform minor maintenance tasks.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong knowledge of milling or pork production systems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism; capable of representing Schwartz Farms positively.
- Comfortable using electronic reports to analyze data for performance enhancement.
- Acceptable driving record.
