Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Building Principal, the Integrated Special Education Co-Teacher is dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of students with special needs. This role focuses on fostering academic growth, social skills, and daily living activities by utilizing district-approved educational programs. Responsibilities include tracking student progress, addressing individual needs, and ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct support to students within the classroom, employing various co-teaching models and instructional strategies to facilitate learning.
  • Implement necessary accommodations to the curriculum and learning environment, providing instruction in diverse settings such as general classrooms, resource rooms, or small groups.
  • Create engaging and differentiated lesson plans that allow all students to access the curriculum effectively.
  • Conduct both formal and informal assessments to evaluate student learning and develop a comprehensive educational program.
  • Establish high expectations tailored to each student's needs, utilizing differentiated assessments based on individual educational plans.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Co-Teacher, grade-level teams, and other staff members, particularly the Student Support Team, to ensure alignment with curriculum standards.
  • Foster partnerships with families, promoting their active involvement in their children's education.
  • Engage with colleagues through coaching cycles, team meetings, and professional development opportunities to enhance instructional practices and student outcomes.
  • Administer assessments and diagnostic evaluations to identify learning challenges and recommend strategies to support student success.
  • Participate in the Student Support Team and assist in the development of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students.
  • Support the implementation of students' IEPs and behavior management strategies as outlined.
  • Coordinate with external agencies and organizations as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by school policies and regulations.
  • Encourage parental engagement in the educational process and ensure effective communication with families.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and contribute to school initiatives.
  • Attend scheduled family engagement events.
  • Utilize GSuite for communication, scheduling, and accessing important resources.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to working within an innovative urban educational environment.
  • Fingerprint clearance from the appropriate educational authority.

Educational Requirements

  • Valid New York State Teaching Certificate for elementary education and Special Education.
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant educational field.

Experience

  • Experience working with high-need students in urban settings is preferred.
  • Experience with project-based or inquiry-based instruction is advantageous.
