Role Overview
The Behavioral Health Consultant plays a vital role in the primary care treatment team, identifying, triaging, and managing patients with medical and psychiatric problems within the primary care setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement behavioral health interventions tailored to a primary care environment, working closely with healthcare providers to monitor treatment plans.
- Assist primary healthcare providers in recognizing and treating mental disorders and psychosocial issues, promoting a collaborative approach to patient care.
- Work in conjunction with the primary care team to coordinate patient care, ensuring seamless transitions between services.
- Conduct brief consultative contacts to assess the clinical status of patients referred by primary care providers.
- Triage patients and provide referrals to specialty care behavioral health services as necessary.
- Detect at-risk patients and develop strategies to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration.
- Prevent relapse or morbidity in conditions prone to recurrence.
- Educate patients, families, and staff on care, prevention, and treatment enhancement techniques.
- Provide targeted assessments and evaluations, including diagnostic impressions and the use of screening tools.
- Offer timely and succinct feedback regarding consultation findings and recommendations.
- Promote immediate high-quality behavioral health services through coordination with medical providers using modalities like motivational interviewing.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, you must possess a Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited graduate school of social work. Additionally, you should hold a current, active license with the State of Alaska as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist.
A minimum of specialized experience is required, involving the use of psychological assessments, formulating diagnoses or treatment recommendations, and providing counseling services to patients. You will also need to pass a State-required background check and pre-hire drug test.
Benefits and Compensation
This rewarding opportunity offers a salary of $95,000+ based on experience, plus sign-on bonus, AK licensure reimbursement, medical and dental insurance, PTO, paid holidays, floating holiday, CE time off and funds, life, AD&D, long/short-term disability, and 403b plan. Access to NHSC and State of AK SHARP loan repayment programs is also available.
