Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Equipment Specialist to join our team. As a Biomedical Equipment Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining, calibrating, inspecting, and repairing clinical and patient care equipment. You will ensure that all tasks comply with established guidelines stipulated by regulatory bodies such as the NFPA, AAMI, TJC, and CMS.



Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance, installation, testing, calibration, and repair of biomedical equipment, ensuring safe operations.
  • Regularly work after hours and be scheduled for on-call rotating shifts.
  • Ensure that biomedical equipment is in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and quality control standards.
  • Assist and train technicians and staff on medical equipment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections using appropriate productivity and quality measures.
  • Complete monthly assigned tasks within the specified timeframe, prioritizing high-risk equipment.
  • Recognize unsafe conditions and notify management to correct them.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to create and enter PM procedures following manufacturer guidelines.
  • Effectively respond to service requests, troubleshoot, and repair medical equipment using established productivity and quality measures.
  • Maintain an adequate level of parts on hand to minimize downtime.
  • Timely and accurately document all service requests and repairs in the biomedical equipment database.
  • Inspect new devices and equipment, ensuring safety, compliance with codes, and ability to learn about function and performance.
  • Secure required device information for the biomedical equipment database.
  • Maintain and fulfill departmental and organizational regulatory requirements and goals.
  • Comply with system, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Report witnessed violations that put patients, staff, department, or facility in jeopardy to management personnel.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of shop safety, including the use of electronic test equipment.
  • Assist with responding to medical equipment recalls and device alerts from manufacturers and/or the FDA.
  • Participate in on-call duties after normal working hours, responding to calls within 15 minutes and reporting to the facility within one hour if required.
  • Provide technical instruction to users over the phone, minimizing equipment downtime and promoting patient care and organizational cost effectiveness.


Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical, Electrical, or Clinical Engineering.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certificate preferred.
  • In-depth IT knowledge on configuration capsules for medical device integrations strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of TJC, DNV, HFAP, CAP, NFPA, CMS, HIPAA, and other applicable standards and regulations preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, read schematics, and/or blueprints.
  • Understanding of computer and network security.
  • High degree of self-motivation, commitment, and integrity.
  • Must exhibit a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, Clinical applications, CMMS systems).
  • Ability to access equipment in confined areas as needed to perform repairs.
  • Unimpaired ability to read color-coded diagrams and instructions, as well as see and hear equipment warning alarms.
  • Ability to wear protective equipment such as surgical and N95 masks.
  • Travel to local system hospitals within Hudson County.
