Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team at the Government of the Virgin Islands. As an Ultrasound Technologist, you will be responsible for performing ultrasound examinations, abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, obstetrics and gynecology scans, radiation therapy localization for treatment planning, and other anatomical areas as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs ultrasound examinations, selects equipment for use in ultrasound setups, and instructs and assists patients in assuming physical position for required exposure to ultrasonic waves.
  • Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations, positions and transfers patients, and lifts, moves, and transports patients.
  • Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis, selects and operates equipment as directed, develops film by automatic processing, and assists physician in administering medicines.
  • Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients, consults with others to obtain a complete clinical history, and gathers pertinent clinical data.
  • Secures and returns supplies as well as patient folders to ensure proper maintenance.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent plus completion of a full-time training course for ultrasound technicians as approved by the American Medical Association and two years' experience under the direction and supervision of a radiologist or other medical officer.
  • Professionally registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
  • Knowledge of equipment used in ultrasounds setups, procedures used in performing ultra sound exams, anatomy and anatomical relationships, and cross-sectional anatomy in all body plans.
  • Ability to operate ultrasound diagnostic equipment, follow oral and written directions, relate with tact and understand to deal with parents, doctors, staff, and all other persons contacted during the course of work.
  • Ability to employ sound judgment in the planning and execution of assigned duties, knowledge of policies, procedures, rules, and regulations that apply to the practice of in an inpatient care setting.

Working Conditions

Work in a climate-controlled and well-lighted environment with a smoke-free policy. Employee will work in an office and throughout the building daily. Has Category 1 risk of exposure to infectious diseases, but receives training in hand hygiene practices, Universal Precautions, and has access to personal protective equipment if direct exposure is anticipated.

Physical Demands

Good general health and stress coping ability. Full mobility and ability to participate in vigorous activity. Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with all constituents (patients, families, peers, and other healthcare team members) as needed for assessment, intervention, and professional development.
