Position Summary:
The Small Engine Mechanic is responsible for the comprehensive maintenance and mechanical servicing of outboard motors utilized by the Grand Canyon Resort Corporation. This role includes managing the inventory of necessary shop parts for small engine repairs and maintenance, as well as assisting other maintenance personnel with various shop activities. The technician will interpret operating, maintenance, and repair manuals while ensuring exceptional customer service and adherence to safety protocols.


Knowledge and Skills Required:

  1. Proficient in performing maintenance and repair tasks on outboard motors, with the capability to assist in other maintenance duties as required.
  2. Ability to read and comprehend operating, maintenance, and repair manuals for outboard motors, including online resources.
  3. Skilled in monitoring the condition of motors and performing routine maintenance.
  4. Physical capability to walk, stand, bend, and lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  5. Comfortable working in both outdoor and indoor shop environments for extended periods.
  6. Strong teamwork skills with the ability to foster positive working relationships and provide excellent customer service.
  7. Adept at multitasking and thriving in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct maintenance and repairs on outboard motors, and assist with the upkeep of other equipment, gas and diesel engines, and machinery.
  2. Maintain logs of maintenance and repair activities for outboard motors and schedule regular maintenance checks.
  3. Translate information from maintenance manuals into actionable tasks.
  4. Ensure maintenance equipment is kept in a clean, safe, and operational state, adhering to safety protocols.
  5. Assist in managing inventory and ordering shop supplies as authorized.
  6. Perform additional work-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Strong verbal communication skills.
  2. Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record; a Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
  3. Previous experience as an auto mechanic or equivalent training is desirable.
  4. High School Diploma or GED; candidates must be at least 21 years old.
  5. Preference may be given to individuals with relevant tribal affiliation.

Working Conditions:
This position requires the ability to work in both indoor shop settings and outdoor environments. The role involves routine physical activity, including walking, standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Flexibility in scheduling, including weekends and holidays, is necessary.
