Stony Brook, New York, United States Stony Brook Medicine Full time

Stony Brook Medicine seeks a visionary leader to drive the Division of Plastic Surgery forward. As the next Chief, you will be responsible for creating a strategic vision and executing a plan to advance the division's clinical expansion on Eastern Long Island. Your leadership will foster an environment that promotes innovative research and education.

The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is comprised of six board-certified clinical faculty members who are dedicated to teaching medical students and surgical residents the art of plastic and reconstructive surgery. They also engage in basic and translational research aimed at advancing reconstructive and cosmetic procedures, as well as community service.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. You will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Surgery and collaborate with them on strategies, benchmarks, and metrics to drive excellent clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and advancements in clinical research.
  2. Our institution is committed to providing ample support, including funding, wet lab space, PhD support, and other resources to enable leaders who wish to continue their research endeavors and carry over extramural funding.
  3. We are open to considering a dual appointment as Vice Chair of Research for those leaders who qualify.
  4. The Department of Surgery consists of ten divisions, with over 60 specialized full-time faculty members, some of whom are national leaders in their fields. We offer inpatient and outpatient care in various surgical specialties across Long Island.
  5. The Division of Plastic Surgery has opportunities for research collaborations with established connections to Brookhaven National Laboratory, the Stony Brook Cancer Center, and excellent graduate and undergraduate programs.
  6. Our plastic surgeons have been recognized for their excellence by being selected for inclusion in Castle Connolly Guides, America's Top Doctors, and Top Doctors: New York Metro Area.
  7. Qualified applicants will have an M.D./D.O. Degree, retain American Board Certification in Plastic Surgery, be eligible for a New York state medical licensure, and hold an academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
  8. Stony Brook offers a great quality of life, with spacious living areas, coastal recreation, wonderful restaurants, coffee shops, and parks. Our public schools rank among the best in the region, and we have a cost of living that is 55 percent less than New York City with easy access to Manhattan and the Hamptons.
