Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at Atrium Health. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will play a critical role in coordinating ultrasound exams with nursing units, radiologists, and physicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate ultrasound exams with nursing units, radiologists, and physicians to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Perform ultrasound exams in accordance with departmental protocols and standards, utilizing advanced imaging equipment.
  • Support and contribute to the patient-centered care philosophy by understanding the needs of each patient.
  • Review physicians' instructions on requisition and consult with radiologists prior to performing procedures.
  • Correlate prior exams, applicable test results, and lab data pertinent to the exam being performed.
  • Verify patient identity and review medical and clinical history, documenting on requisition as necessary.
  • Obtain medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast materials as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist, or registered nurse.
  • Evaluate technical quality of exam and recognize imaging abnormalities, performing additional imaging as instructed.
  • Assist radiologists in performing invasive procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Successful completion of Ultrasound Training Program preferred.
  • Certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or registry eligible.
  • BLS required per policy guidelines.

Physical Requirements

This position requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies up to 50 pounds. Requires frequent walking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Must be able to read and understand patient orders and technical materials. Motor coordination needed to operate heavy and delicate equipment. Intact sense of sight and hearing.
