The Engineering and Science Services and Capabilities Augmentation (ESSCA) contract provides vital engineering, scientific, and technical support to NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). Our Integration and Environments Team is a high-performing unit engaged in complex tasks that support MSFC's Structural Design, Development & Analysis Division, contributing to significant programs such as the Space Launch System (SLS), Human Lander Systems (HLS), and Mars Ascent Vehicle (MAV). This impactful work plays a crucial role in advancing human exploration of the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
Our ESSCA Team Leads act as primary supervisors, overseeing task orders and personnel aligned with the requirements outlined in the ESSCA Performance Work Statement, as well as any additional skills needed as the contract evolves. They ensure the recruitment of high-caliber individuals through structured human resources processes, providing appropriate training and development to meet our company standards. Team Leads are accountable for the proactive management of assigned task orders and personnel to ensure the effective fulfillment of MSFC's requirements.
Responsibilities of the Team Lead position in Structural Models, Test & Analysis include:
- Leading a proficient team dedicated to supporting our NASA government client and SEG management.
- Providing technical supervision, including the assignment and balancing of team skills across various task orders to meet expectations.
- Collaborating with the Deputy Department Manager to identify and develop lead personnel for each task order or subtask as necessary.
- Supporting resource allocation, tracking, and control for tasks and subtasks.
- Overseeing individual and team technical performance, which may involve managing sub-task leads and providing technical expertise.
- Ensuring the technical quality of work products generated by team members and implementing processes within the SEG Performance Management System (PMS).
- Training and developing team members through on-the-job training, strategic assignments, and peer-to-peer learning.
- Forecasting future resource, skills, and development needs in collaboration with department management to enhance workforce flexibility and efficiency.
- Identifying and managing cost, technical, and schedule risks to ensure the successful achievement of Task Order requirements and ESSCA objectives.
- Implementing the ESSCA safety program and exemplifying our Beyond Zero culture.
- Conducting hiring functions to fulfill team support needs, including defining position requirements and leading recruitment efforts.
- Establishing employee goals and conducting performance evaluations, as well as supporting disciplinary processes when necessary.
- Implementing awards and recognition programs to enhance team morale.
- Reviewing and approving employee travel and training requests and associated expense reports.
Team Leads will support ESSCA contract operations by:
- Ensuring strong customer relations and fostering positive team dynamics through effective conflict resolution.
- Facilitating coordination and communication with other Team Leads, SEG management, and various stakeholders.
- Supporting SEG leadership in communication and sharing best practices across MSFC and ESSCA.
- Collaborating with SEG and MSFC personnel to explore new work areas and develop task scopes.
- Leading personnel in the technical execution of task orders.
- Promoting employee awareness of safety, mission success, and client satisfaction.
- Alerting SEG management of activities that may require disciplinary or safety actions.
- Ensuring the quality of technical work in accordance with the SEG Performance Management System.
- Coordinating subcontractor task assignments and performance.
- Strategically assigning personnel to broaden their skills and serve as points of contact for each Task Order or Subtask.
- Utilizing analytical, design, and testing tools to deliver state-of-the-art capabilities to MSFC.
- Conducting special projects as assigned by the Department Manager or Office of Program Management.
Qualifications:
A degree in a scientific, engineering, or related field is required, with a preference for candidates from ABET accredited institutions. An MS or Ph.D. is highly desirable. Typically, educational requirements equate to a Ph.D. with a minimum of 4 years of experience, a Master's with at least 8 years, or a Bachelor's with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
Candidates must possess exceptional technical and leadership qualifications in one or more of the following areas:
- Outstanding verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Active participation in professional societies such as AIAA, NSBE, SHPE, SWE, etc.
- Demonstrated expertise in technical and systems management to support the evaluation of MSFC programs and projects.
Technical expertise in any of the following areas is highly desirable:
- Dynamics Analysis
- Mechanical/Structural Engineering

Ability to operate a personal computer and other general office equipment.
Attendance:
Normal work hours are Monday through Friday. Some overtime may be necessary to meet project deadlines.
Other Essential Functions:
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise good judgment is crucial. Professional grooming and attire are expected.
