Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at the University of Virginia. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care using medical ultrasound under the supervision of a physician.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform ultrasound procedures and record anatomical, pathological, and physiological data for interpretation by a physician.
  • Assist the physician in gathering sonographic data necessary to diagnose a variety of conditions and diseases.
  • Obtain, review, and integrate pertinent patient medical history and supporting clinical data to facilitate optimum diagnostic results.
  • Provide patient education related to medical ultrasound.
  • Record and process sonographic data.
  • Provide patient services in a variety of medical settings.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on equipment to ensure proper safety standards are met.
Requirements
  • Must meet the education requirement for diagnostic medical ultrasound or echocardiography ultrasound certification with either CCI or ARDMS.
  • Credentials from ARDMS as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in OB/GYN are required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification is required.
Physical Demands

The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping and traveling, driving (occasionally for outreach clinics); reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); repetitive motion: manipulation of ultrasound transducer.

Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 100lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, radiation, blood/body fluids, and disease.
