Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough research and selection of residential placement facilities to ensure the best possible outcomes for our youth.
  • Coordinate with administrative staff to obtain approval and establish or renew service provider contracts with selected placement facilities.
  • Monitor and manage private service providers who are paid with State funds, ensuring compliance with all regulations and guidelines.
  • Administer and complete assessments, such as the Commercial Sexual Exploitation Identification Tool (CSE-IT), to identify potential risks and develop effective intervention strategies.
  • Act as the department's Title IV-E Claims Coordinator, preparing and submitting documentation for reimbursement related to Title IV-E residential placements.
  • Develop and assign projects for probationers to complete while providing support and direct supervision, ensuring successful reintegration into the community.
  • Prepare juveniles for residential placement, obtaining necessary documentation and referrals to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Effectively communicate placement matches, accessing availability factors and scheduling meetings with parents and probation officers as needed.
  • Monitor and reinforce payment of court-ordered restitution with juveniles and families, ensuring compliance with all regulations and guidelines.
  • Request filing of charges against probationers and parents through the District Attorney's Office for non-payment of fees.
  • Facilitate the process of discharging juveniles from residential placement facilities, ensuring a smooth transition back into the community.
  • Coordinate and provide program support for Experiential Education, including Junior Master Gardener program and college tours.
  • Supervise juveniles participating in Experiential Education programs, securing necessary waivers and consent forms.
  • Communicate regularly with juveniles, counselors, probation officers, parents, and other co-facilitators to enhance the overall experience.
  • Attend training in First Aid and CPR, maintaining current certifications, and attend approved trainings to improve services offered.
  • Administer the Massachusetts Youth Screening Instrument (MAYSI), in accordance with TJJD standards.
  • Ensure all new offenses and other possible causes for prosecution are referred to the District Attorney's Office for consideration in accordance with department policies.
  • Complete staffing worksheets, providing recommendations for disposition of pending referrals and supporting documentation.
  • Request filing of charges by the District Attorney's Office for juveniles who have failed to comply with the terms and conditions of their probation/placement.
  • Prepare for court appearances, providing accurate information needed for court hearings to ensure proper disposition for juvenile cases.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date data on the JCMS files for all juveniles, entering weekly chronological notes into JCMS within five working days.
  • Research, procure, and track all funding sources for residential placement in JCMS, aligning funding data with actual invoice coding.
  • Prepare and submit written documents, social history reports, modification reports, home evaluations, interim supervision/interstate compact on juveniles, quarterly progress reports, detention hearing worksheets, court orders and conditions of probation, petitions, directives to apprehend, requests for summons, etc.
  • Report activities of all juveniles to the Chief Administration Officer, properly reporting child abuse, neglect, and exploitation in accordance with State law and TJJD standards.
  • Develop and maintain a rapport with juveniles and family to construct a positive home environment, developing and maintaining proper contacts with juvenile department's counseling staff and contract providers.
  • Prepare juveniles for release from placement, referring juveniles and family for assessments, programs, or counseling services in accordance with needs as identified in discharge summaries and/or residential case plans.
  • Consult and coordinate with other agencies, maintaining and developing proper contacts with community resources to refer juveniles and families to appropriate agencies.
  • Work 24-hour shifts, on-call duty on a weekly rotating schedule to be available to make decisions concerning the detention of juveniles based on department policies.
  • Present information to civic groups and schools as requested and approved by administration, promptly responding to inquiries, and completing required training courses to maintain Juvenile Probation Officer Certification.
  • Help maintain all department vehicles to remain in good working condition.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Certified Juvenile Probation Officer must complete TJJD's Juvenile Probation Officer basic training within the first six months of employment.
  • One (1) year of related experience.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
Working Conditions:

Position is primarily located in an office environment with little to no exposure to environmental conditions, with the exception of duties related to Community Service and Experiential Education program(s). Duties also involve a significant amount of driving/traveling both locally and statewide. Health and safety hazards in the office environment are minimal, with the exception of urinalysis screening utilizing rubber gloves.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Must be able to be on-call once monthly for seven (7) days at a time.
