Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our radiology department, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures and communicating results to interpreting physicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate ultrasound equipment to perform general and/or vascular procedures/studies
  • Communicate results of diagnostic examinations to interpreting physicians
  • Accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings
  • Review patient medical records to obtain necessary clinical information
  • Position patients and select proper transducers and technical factors for accurate ultrasound procedures
  • Ensure safety, mental, and physical comfort of patients
  • Analyze sonograms and synthesize sonographic information and medical history
  • Communicate findings to appropriate physicians
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Sonography
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) examination for Sonographic Principles and Instrumentation (SPI)
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) examination for Vascular Technology (VT) if performing vascular exams
  • Completion of a minimum of twelve (12) months training in an accredited program in Sonography
  • Clinical competency in abdominal, pelvic, and routine vascular exams or those sonographic exams routinely performed by the hiring department
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and adherence to department, facility, and organization policies and protocols
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients and caregivers using excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, work independently, and manage simultaneous assignments
  • Ability to be flexible in schedule and adaptable to constant change
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques
