Key Responsibilities:
  • Racking and Stacking: Install, organize, and maintain hardware equipment in data center racks following standard operating procedures.
  • Cabling: Perform fiber and copper cabling tasks, ensuring proper labeling, routing, and connectivity.
  • Decommissioning: Safely remove and dispose of outdated or failed hardware following data destruction protocols.
  • Break-Fix: Diagnose and repair hardware failures and performance issues promptly.
  • Remote Hands: Assist customers with on-site troubleshooting, equipment installations, and configuration changes as needed.
  • Hardware Replacement: Replace faulty hardware components, including servers, switches, and other IT equipment.
  • Layer 1 Troubleshooting: Address issues related to hardware power connectivity, fiber optics, Ethernet connections, and port status verification.
  • Layer 2 Troubleshooting: Perform configuration repairs, software installations, and hardware maintenance.
  • Power Management: Work with power feeds, including redundancy, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and manage hot/cold aisles effectively.
  • Network Protocols: Utilize knowledge of networking protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, Ethernet, L2/L3) in troubleshooting and installations.
  • Documentation: Read and interpret cut-sheets for physical network installation, ensuring accurate port connections and cable management.
  • AC and DC Power Equipment: Maintain and troubleshoot AC and DC power equipment, ensuring reliable power distribution and connectivity.
Requirements:
  • Experience working as a technician in data center operations or a similar environment.
  • Experience in customer service, interacting directly with customers.
  • Experience working with data center equipment, including safe handling of live hardware and rack building/installation.
  • Experience with layer 1 troubleshooting: hardware power connectivity, fiber cable, fiber optics, Ethernet connections, logging into IT devices, identifying port status on servers and switches, and link quality verification.
  • Experience with layer 2 troubleshooting: configuration repairs, software installation, and hardware repair.
  • Experience reading cut-sheets for physical network installation: identifying port connection locations, positions and overhead trays for running cables, and relevant patch panels to connect to.
  • Experience working with power feeds: including redundancy, ATS, hot/cold aisles, rack builds/installations, networking hardware (including cabling, switches, servers), and associated troubleshooting.
  • Experience with networking protocols/technologies (TCP/IP, Ethernet, L2/L3).
  • Knowledge and experience with AC and DC power equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions.
