Job SummaryWashington University in St. Louis seeks a highly skilled Polysomnographic Technologist to join our team. As a Senior Technologist, you will work under medical supervision to perform and evaluate overnight polysomnograms. This role requires independence and the ability to safely operate sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology. You will also supervise and coordinate the activities of other technicians, ensuring the smooth operation of our sleep laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
• Set up, calibrate, and monitor recording equipment necessary for PSG, MSLT, MWT, and CPAP/BIPAP to ensure artifact-free tracings.
• Recognize and record clinical and physiological relevant events.
• Detect and correct equipment malfunctions.
• Interpret polysomnogram data.
• Interview patients to obtain sleep history.
• Handle phone calls and answer questions for patients and physicians.
• Prepare for patients in high-risk situations, such as cardiac or pulmonary problems.
• Aid in the training of new trainees.
• Supervise and coordinate activities of other outpatients.
• Check inventories and order supplies as needed.
• Assist with general maintenance and organization of the lab area.
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of electronics, instruments, and equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot and handle maintenance and repair.
• Knowledge of sleep disorders, medication effects, and related diseases.
• Ability to monitor sleep stages and other pertinent physiological functions.
• Ability to ensure patient education, safety, and comfort, and assimilate information from several sources and anticipate initiation of care in accordance with protocols.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
• Board registered Polysomnographic Technologist or ABSM Sleep Technologist.
• Basic Life Support Certification must be obtained within one month of employment.
