We are seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Specialist V to join our team at the Texas Military Department. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in promoting mental health awareness and wellness among our service members.
Key Responsibilities- Provide mental health counseling services to service members, including assessment, counseling, education, and reporting.
- Develop and implement mental health programs and services to promote resilience and prevent mental health issues.
- Collaborate with unit leadership and other stakeholders to identify risk factors and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Conduct training and education sessions on mental health topics, including suicide prevention, substance use, and other behavioral health issues.
- Facilitate peer support groups for service members and provide individual counseling services as needed.
- Collect and analyze data to identify trends and patterns of mental health issues and develop strategies to address them.
- Serve as a behavioral health advisor to prevention workforce and provide guidance on prevention of domestic violence, self-harm, sexual violence, sexual harassment, and workplace violence.
- Coordinate with Risk Reduction Program to develop and implement Risk Mitigation Plans.
- Follow up to determine reliability and validity of evidence-informed treatment used and make recommendations regarding modification to services and services delivery.
- Coordinate with Family Support Services programs to offer holistic support and resources to clients.
- Participate in planning process used to implement programs, policies, and procedures.
- Attend relevant training and continuing education to maintain licensure required for the position.
- Coordinate routine outreach, education, and prevention efforts to units and leadership across the Texas Military Department.
- Provide support and execute plans for mental health assistance to service members and civil servants during disaster response missions.
- May be required to perform duty in support of local, State, or Federal emergencies, disasters, and other missions.
- Graduation from a nationally accredited Master's or PhD program with major coursework in counseling, social work, or related field.
- Three years' experience as a behavioral health provider (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, PhD, PsyD) licensed by the State of Texas to independently provide mental health services without supervision.
- Experience using Microsoft Office (such as Outlook, Word, or Excel).
- Valid driver's license.
- Must possess one of the following licenses: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in a field of psychology or Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.).
- Military experience or working with military service members.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
Work is typically performed in an office setting involving sitting, standing, and walking to perform job duties. Work requires extensive use of a personal computer and telephone. Incumbent must be able to drive a vehicle to designated locations. Work requires travel approximately 25% of the time with occasional overnight stays.
