We are seeking a skilled Histology Technologist to join our team at HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital. As a Histology Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of histology and cytology procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Perform histology and cytology procedures, including specimen processing, fixation, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation, routine stains, IHC, and special stains.
- Ensure positive sample, block, and slide identification, and prepare and maintain reagents for routine stains and histology procedures.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and instrumentation, and adhere to department policy regarding performance and documentation of quality control and quality assurance.
- Utilize independent judgment and problem-solving skills to ensure the accuracy of procedures performed and proper equipment performance.
- Troubleshoot and take corrective action to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- High School Diploma and minimum two years of histology experience, or High School Diploma with completion of an accredited program in Histo-technology, or Associate's degree in Chemistry, Biology, and one year of histology experience, or Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry.
- National Certification as a MT (ASCP) or HT (ASCP) required, and state license where required.
- Thorough knowledge of histology methods and correlation to disease processes, and ability to follow protocols for proper fixation and routine staining of samples.
- Ability to consistently prepare and produce specimen sections with appropriate slide orientation, thickness, and stain quality for microscopic diagnosis by a pathologist.
- General knowledge of laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements, and excellent communication, team work, and organizational skills.
