Job Summary: UPMC is seeking a Compassionate End-of-Life Caregiver to provide personal care, emotional support, and comfort to our guests in the Hospice House.

About the Role: As a Casual Caregiver, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being of our guests by providing assistance with daily living activities, such as bathing, grooming, and feeding. You will also be responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment, promoting good hygiene practices, and providing emotional support during difficult times.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide nutrition by preparing meals, assisting with food and fluid intake, and helping patients with oral consumption.
  • Offer emotional support by listening and showing empathy and understanding.
  • Promote good personal hygiene by assisting with bathing, shampooing, mouth care, nail care, and other personal care needs.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment through observation and performance of light household chores.
  • Provide maximum comfort through proper positioning and bedmaking.
  • Support guests and families during the dying process, utilizing standard blood and body fluid precautions and adhering to agency quality and productivity standards.
  • Make timely observations and communicate effectively with the Hospice Interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate understanding of hospice philosophy and care.
  • Perform specialized tasks such as catheter care, simple dressing application, and ostomy care.
  • Assist with medications that are self-administered.
  • Maintain accurate guest records and related reports, upholding confidentiality.
  • Recognize and respond to guest emergencies according to emergency procedures.


Requirements:
  • 1 year of relevant experience
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills


Licensure and Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Act 33, Act 34, OAPSA certification required.

Estimated Salary: $45,000 - $55,000 annually.
