Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pulmonary Medicine Specialist to join our team at The University Of Iowa. The successful candidate will provide high-quality patient care, exercise autonomy in medical decision-making, and work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide overall medical care and management for patients in the Pulmonary Respiratory Specialty & Comprehensive Care Unit, Pulmonary Procedural Services, Adult Cystic Fibrosis Services, and outpatient settings.
  • Exercise autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided, functioning independently to assess, perform medical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and document patient care orders.
  • Collaborate with attending physicians, fellows, residents, medical students, nurses, physician assistants, and advanced registered nurse practitioners to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in daily inpatient rounds, complete written medical record documentation, and coordinate discharge planning and post-discharge follow-up care.
  • Direct and mentor fellows, residents, medical students, nurses, physician assistants, and advanced registered nurse practitioners in inpatient population management and optimal resource utilization.
  • Coordinate and participate in clinical research, order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests, and provide anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients and family members.
  • Facilitate communication with internal and external health care providers, initiate and coordinate patient referrals, and facilitate the appropriate referral of patients to other health facilities, agencies, and resources.
Requirements
  • Physician's Assistant: Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
  • Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP): A Master's Degree is required, with a Master's degree in Nursing preferred. If the Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required.
  • Current certification in an adult specialty area and licensure as an RN and ARNP in the state of Iowa is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Reasonable (1-3 years) experience in Acute Care or Intensive Care clinical practice is required or previous experience in this specialty area or demonstrated knowledge of this clinical practice is required.
